I won't know who my Republican opponent will be until after the Primary.  But, Congressman Hobson's performance was typical of most Republicans in Congress and his past will likely be a good predictor of  the performance of my opponent if elected.  Hobson has anointed Steve Austria for whom he has served as a mentor for a number of years.  If Austria is the Republican candidate, a continuation of Hobson's practices (if not the skill level) will be virtually certain.

David Hobson   Won't Debate, violates federal election law,  tied to Abramoff, Delay, and Foley.

Congressman Hobson is a consistent supporter of President Bush and the Right Wing Republican Agenda and sells his vote to special interests.

  • He has voted for all of the tax breaks for the rich and the cuts of social programs.
  • He took $136,000 from oil interests and voted against a bill cracking down on oil product price gouging and for the GOP Energy Bill which gave Billions to oil, gas, and nuclear interests.  He has made millions of dollars from his large holdings of oil company stocks which have benefited from his votes.
  • He took $171,000 from drug interests and voted for Medicare Part D which prohibited negotiating drug prices.  He voted against allowing re-importing drugs from Canada.  (When Democrats introduced a bill in 2007 to alter Medicare D to allow the government to negotiate Medicare D drug prices, Hobson voted against it.  The drug industry is getting its money's worth from Hobson while we, the citizens are being bilked of $250 Billion over ten years.)
  • Following Tom Delay's lead, he voted to weaken House ethics rules.  He contributed to Delay's defense.
  • Hobson supports the war in Iraq but not the troops.  He received a 25% rating for support of veterans.  His priority is tax breaks for the rich.  In contrast, Sherrod Brown received a 100% rating for supporting veterans.  As a retired military member, Bill Conner will introduce a constructive plan to end the war and will support the active duty troops and veterans.

Who writes our laws?    -The Lobbyists!

  • They buy that privilege from Hobson and the other Republicans.
  • The oil companies and Enron wrote the GOP Energy Bill.  Remember the energy policy meeting Cheney held with energy corporation executives.  They wouldn't even identify the participants.  Cockroaches always meet in the dark.
  • The drug companies wrote the Medicare Part D Bill.
  • The banks and credit card companies wrote the oppressive new bankruptcy law.
  •  And so it goes with untold other laws.

No more Pork Barrel with Hobson.

Much is said about Hobson bringing pork to the district.  However, with Democratic control of the House of Representatives, he has no capability to insert any earmarks (pork).

Overall, pork has been a bad deal for Ohio.  While we rank very high in taxes paid to the federal government, Ohio is 44th among the states in the amount of pork received.

Choose Honor with Conner.

After more than thirty years working in every major organization at Wright Patterson AFB, I understand the legitimate needs of Wright Patterson AFB far more than Hobson.  I will protect Wright Patterson AFB from any unfair cuts and will support the legitimate expansion of its mission.

Appropriations for the legitimate requirements of Wright Patterson,  Springfield ANGB, Rickenbacker ANGB, and other interests in the 7th District can and should be provided through the regular legislative process.  We can protect our legitimate interests without feeding the corruption which is destroying our nation.  My approach is open and honest.  I walk right down Main Street.  I don't work in the slime of the back alleys.  When you shine a light on the cockroaches, they scurry to the dark crevices and leave the stage to honorable people.  I will work with these other honorable people to solve our nation's problems in full daylight.  The people of our nation will know exactly what we are doing and we will be fully accountable to them.

The Major Differences Between Conner and Hobson:

  • Ethics and integrity.  Hobson takes large campaign donations from special interest lobbyists and pays off in votes that dispense billions of dollars to them. He took $136,000 from oil interests and voted for the GOP energy bill which gave tax breaks to the oil industry. He voted against a bill to prevent price gouging by oil companies. He took $171,000 from the drug industry, and voted for the Medicare Part D bill which prohibited negotiation of drug prices. He takes untold contributions from the rich and votes them tax breaks. Hobson thinks that he can continue to be corrupt because the public doesn't notice or care.  According to the Washington post -We're all being rushed into a bill," said Rep. David L. Hobson (R-Ohio). "We panicked, and we let the media get us panicked."  See the full article.     I will take nothing from lobbyists. I will vote for the strictest rules for dealing with them. Congressmen will take nothing of value from them. Meetings of lobbyists will take place only in Congressional offices and will be video taped. Tapes will be retained. More ...
  • Hobson supports the Iraq war but not the troops. He voted against Tricare for national guard and reservists. He voted against a $1500 bonus for those who serve in the war zone. I propose an improved version Senator Biden's plan which will get us out of Iraq.  I will vote to pay our debt to those who have served.
  • Hobson has voted for giveaways to the rich and special interests with a resultant $400 to $600 billion deficit. I have a plan to produce a budget surplus in a single year.  It calls for a rollback of Reagan and Bush tax cuts for the rich, rescinding of tax cuts for oil companies, negotiated drug prices, eliminating special interest loopholes, and retaining large estate inheritance taxes.
  • Hobson supported the privatization of Social Security. I say that Social Security is often the only pension people have and they should not gamble it in the stock market. I propose to secure Social Security by raising the wage cap and reducing pensions of those who have over $100,000 in other income during retirement.
  • Hobson voted against raising the minimum wage to $7.15 (until the bogus combination of it with raising the threshold for inheritance tax).  I support this increase in the minimum wage.

Hobson's Web Site    Embarrassingly weak, click on "Issues".  While the country is in peril, he's hiding from the citizens of the 7th District.  He won't respond to the Columbus Dispatch, Dayton Daily News, Springfield News-Sun or any other newspaper requests for interview. I have responded immediately and scheduled those interviews.
