Protect Our Democracy
Ohio Republicans are waging war on our Democracy. Under their recently released redistricting plan, twelve of the sixteen Ohio Congressional districts will elect Republicans regardless of voter desires. Four will elect Democrats. It will be virtually impossible to convince enough voters that poor performance and policies threatening our national survival warrant changing their long held party preferences to make a difference in the November 2012 election. Our elected Congressmen will have little reason to care what the voters think. Democrats have no say on redistricting. Meanwhile, Ohio Republicans have passed HB194 which makes voting more difficult, particularly for working Ohioans, senior citizens, and residents of urban districts. And, the Citizens United decision by our right wing dominated Supreme Court has opened the floodgates for unlimited corporate spending on campaigns. Karl Rove and the billionaire Koch brothers are already directing the spending of billions to influence our elections. We, the voters, are left with two courses. We can decide that Democracy is not important, that rule by billionaires is OK. Or, we can sign the HB194 repeal petitions this month, vote for its repeal in 2012, vote against the Republican legislators who want to end our Democracy, and hope we can make some difference.
