Class Warfare Letter to Editors When Democrats suggest that the wealthy should pay their fair share of taxes, Republicans, lacking any reasonable arguments, yell “Class Warfare!”. The GOP has long waged class warfare on the middle class and poor. They support tax breaks and privilege for the rich, to destroy labor unions (SB5), to slash worker wages, and to limit OSHA and EPA protections. The GOP fights the establishment of affordable health care for workers and senior citizens. They slash funding for public education at every turn in a drive to make quality education available only to the wealthy. Knowing that bank deregulation led directly to the financial crisis of 2008 and our continuing recession, they still fight any efforts to regulate banks. In Ohio, they are trying to establish one party rule with attacks on voting rights (HB159 and HB194) and the gerrymandering of Congressional districts (HB319). They seek complete control of the media with its ownership by right wing moguls such as Rupert Murdoch. We are seeing billions in corporate political campaign advertising in the wake of the right wing Citizen’s United Supreme Court decision. Yes, Class Warfare is here! We of the middle class and the poor are losing badly.
