My Qualifications and Work Experience

I am 64 years of age. My wife, Carolyn, and I have been married for 40 years.  We have three grown children. Matthew 34, Erin 33, and Jason 28. All graduated from Beavercreek High School and Ohio State University. We have five grandchildren.  We have been residents of Ohio since 1968.   See family pictures.

My wife and I are Christians.  We are members of the Beaver United Church of Christ and attend every week.  We are active in the church and I serve on the church governing board.  I apply my handyman skills to church maintenance.

I completed a BS (1967) and MS (1968) in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University.

I enlisted in the US Air Force at age 19 in October 1963. I was commissioned four years later and retired in October 1983 as a Major.

During my Air Force career I worked in military intelligence supporting foreign space systems analysis, wind tunnel testing, weapons acquisition management, and electronic warfare computer modeling.  My military intelligence background includes electronic intelligence (ELINT) planning and data analysis,  overseas field work in human intelligence (HUMINT), and satellite photo interpretation.  Assigned to Foreign Technology Division (now National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC)), I worked with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), National Security Agency (NSA) and Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).  My wind tunnel work was primarily in support of airborne laser weapons.  Much of my acquisition management work was in developing new computer based management systems.

Since my Air Force retirement, I have worked for several defense contractors, primarily doing software development.  I have been a small business owner, operating a software development company, Effective Automated Systems Engineering (EASE) which has registered with the Ohio Secretary of State since 1989.  EASE has been engaged in contracted software development and software development for subsequent sale.  Among the EASE developments was EASE Process Analysis System, a general process simulation system which was sold to Abbott Labs.  I was a member of the board of directors of Work Simplification Software Inc. through the 1990s.  I am currently a consultant to the Ben Graham Corporation. I maintain and improve the Graham Business Process Software which I developed (along with an EASE employee) in 1989.   I also have marketed the CNETT Project Management System (1984 - 1995) and currently market  the  EASE Project Management System which I developed.

In 1975, I took the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). The GRE is similar to the SAT but for college graduates. On the Mathematical Reasoning test, I received a perfect score of 800. I think it illustrates my ability to quickly recognize the essential elements of a problem, formulate an approach to the solution, and solve it. My approach to real life problems is to go at them objectively and honestly and formulate a solution. If someone else proposes an improvement on my solution or a better solution altogether, we go with the best solution. I do not accept hidden agendas or other deceit as any part of the process. If someone stands in the way of the solution, I take him on.
This talent will be very important in Congress where deceptive language and, particularly, deceptive numbers are an everyday occurrence. (Visit the FairTax web site for an example of massive deception.) I think that many Congressmen are intimidated by the shear volume of deceptive numbers they receive from lobbyists, the executive branch and other Congressmen. I will quickly point out deceptions and the deceivers. After I called him on his deception, a co-worker once said, "You can't blame a guy for trying." I said, "I can and I do."  I found that, when it became known that I didn't accept deception, people were more honest with me.

Regarding the other parts of the GRE, I received a 760 in Engineering and a 630 in Verbal Aptitude.

My engineering aptitude and 20 years of experience give me additional perspective and capability which is uncommon in Congress.

In the Air Force, I followed the normal pattern of moving from job to job every four years or sooner.  In my case, it usually involved a totally new line of work. In contract work after my AF retirement I followed a similar pattern. I often went from being the new guy to the pace setter in quick order. I also got into more than my share of trouble due to my dedication to integrity and ethics. See my work history.
